2. Dandelions

Edible 2

Many people try to eradicate dandelions from their property, but a smart homesteader or prepper will allow them to grow because they have so many wonderful uses.

For example, the flowers can be turned into a syrup that is similar to honey, and the leaves make a great addition to tea, soups and salads.

The root can be roasted to create a substitute for coffee. Dandelions have also enjoyed a long history of medicinal purposes, including serving as a diuretic.

In fact, many patented medications include dandelions in their ingredients list.
