4. Build a Pet First Aid Kit

There are pet first aid kits available online, but you can also build your own. Either way, it is critical to collect some medical supplies that will help keep your dog alive and stable during a medical emergency.

Make sure to keep honey in your kit because this can be used as an edible antibiotic that can be applied directly to any wounds. Other items that you should have on hand include Pet Clot, no-chew bandages, GentaSpray, Zymox and over-the-counter medications to help prevent fleas, ticks and worms. You may also want to purchase or make a collapsible cone just in case you ever need to put a splint on one of your dog’s legs.
