If you are in a rural area or get lost in a whiteout, it may be necessary to use a flare gun, emergency whistle or bright flashlight to capture the attention of emergency responders.
A flare can be seen for long distances, but make sure that you use it safely, and always shoot it up and away from any nearby motorists.
