Driver Finds Handgun Lodged in BUMPER!?

You Decide: Ridiculously inconvenient bumper holster? Or vaguely hostile hood ornament gone wrong? We’ll add another possibility: Highly ineffective performance spoiler? We have no idea how exactly how this pistol became lodged in the hood of a Honda Civic… but one thing is sure. It’s in remarkably good shape for an object that appears to have been bouncing along on I-5 in Washington State. We’ve heard of hiding guns in plain sight. In fact, we have shared several ideas for doing just that on the following pages. FYI, none of these include storing them in a motor vehicle, and […]

How to Use Bullet Tracing to Improve Your Long Range Accuracy

When you pull the trigger on any of your guns there’s a little bit of distortion in the air. Snipers call this “bullet trace” and it’s one of the critical elements they use to determine where a shot hit.  What happens as the bullet travels through the air, the high speed literally distorts the air around it. Bullet tracing works much like those tracer rounds you might have seen in old World War II footage on the History Channel.  Gunners and snipers use these trails to re-adjust their aim. Where this becomes especially helpful for long distance target shooting and […]

We’re not sure what exactly Maryland’s use of force policy is on varmints… But it’s safe to say this was a very bad day for this groundhog. Probably not this deputy’s best day either. Woof! White-Tailed Deer: Why, When and How They Shed [VIDEO]

Funny story, we once explained the yearly antler cycle to a non-hunter and this man was totally incredulous that a deer, no matter how impressive, grows a whole new massive set of antlers each and every year.  But if you’re an experienced hunter, you already know that bucks manage to grow a new set of antlers every single year. And once hunting season is over with, a whole new season starts to begin… shed hunting season. This season conveniently tends to overlap Turkey season in many areas, so you’ve got multiple excuses to get out in the field. When does it […]

5 Best Eye Exercises for Shooters

What’s the most common thing shooters say they want help with?  We conducted a survey recently and got some very interesting feedback. The overwhelming response was one word, simply: Aiming. It’s a bit of a tricky subject to focus on, because well… what exactly does it mean? Pretty much everyone knows how their sight picture should look in order to “aim” at the center of a target. You line up the front and rear sights on the bullseye, right? Where the real difficulty seems to come from is not so much “aiming” as it is “focusing.” Most people tend to […]

DIY Hillbilly Water Bottle Filter [STEP-BY-STEP]

A good survival filtration system is a must-have for any survival stockpile or bug-out bag. The reason is simple: Potable water is second only to air in terms of survival, and yet it’s difficult to store in large quantities and even more difficult to transport. In a bug-out situation, it’s probably not going to be practical to pull a 500-gallon water trailer behind the family sedan. Even if you have a pickup, chances are you only have room for a 55-gallon barrel or two — that’s over 918 lbs of water, not counting the weight of the barrels! RELATED: How […]

One Hundred Years of Sniper Technology

Nearly 100 years ago on May 28, 1918, Americans from all corners of the republic stepped foot into Hell. Near a little French town called Cantigny, the United States got its first taste of the horrors of the First World War. Names you’d become familiar with like George Marshall, George Patton, Eisenhower and Harry Truman all participated in the war. In fact, the major counterattack during the Battle of Cantigny was lead by Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. But the American began to struggle with elements of this new war they’d never seen before. Will A Bite From This Snake Kill You?

QUESTION: Will a bite from the snake pictured above kill you? ANSWER: No. Often mistaken for highly venomous coral snake, the scarlet king snake pictured above is non-venomous and even beneficial to have around for rodent control. The coral snake (featured on page 10) is identified by the common Boy Scout saying “Red and yellow, kill a fellow. Red and black, friend of Jack.” Thus, if the snake has red and yellow bands touching, it’s a Texas coral snake or eastern coral snake. The Arizona coral snake features a very pale yellow band, nearly white, that touches its yellow bands.
