The idea of installing awnings on your house might seem counterintuitive for a budget friendly approach, but the reality is that this will end up saving you money.
According to the United States Department of Energy, putting an awning over your windows can reduce indoor solar heat by approximately 65 percent.
In other words, if your typical electric bill spikes from $50 to $200 in the summer due to A/C usage, you could conceivably remain just as cool while only spending about $102.50. You can even take a DIY approach to building awnings, so this is definitely a good way to reduce your overall expenses.
