Step Two: Prepare Your Awning Material
If you selected a canvas drop cloth, you may need to fold it over as shown above to get the proper sizing. Keep in mind that this is another area where you can have some overhang at the bottom, but that is not actually necessary. Make sure that the cloth you purchase is either mildew resistant or that you treat it with a diluted bleach solution to keep mildew at bay.
Alterations can be done at on a sewing machine or at an alterations shop. The example pictured above was 6’ x 9’ for a 6’ wide window. Once altered, it left an attractive overhang but was much shorter than the original product. Please note that the cloth should be folded so that the plastic backing side faces out during this stage, but you can invert it to have the canvas material showing after the alterations have been completed.
