Step Five: Cook the Hardtack

Place the uncooked hardtack squares onto an ungreased baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook the hardtack for 30 minutes, then flip each square before continuing the cooking process for another 30 minutes.

Once you are done making the hardtack and it has had enough time to cool off, place the squares into an airtight container. If you keep your hardtack properly stored, it will last for at least one year. Making these squares once a year is an easy and inexpensive and easy way to ensure that you have some non-perishable food on hand in case the SHTF.
