Step One: Prepare the Paint Can
Your paint can will need to come complete with a lid and a handle in order for it to work. Drill four holes into the lid as showcased in the image. Failure to follow this step will ruin your attempt to make charcoal, so do not move forward until the holes have been drilled.
Step Two: Chop Firewood into Several Pieces
Take a piece of firewood and chop it into many smaller pieces. You can also saw the wood down to the size of the paint can first to make it easier to cut appropriately sized pieces. If you choose not to follow this option, you will cut the wood again in the next step.
