Step Six: Make a Spot for the Paint Can
After approximately five minutes, your fire should be roaring.
It will now be important to take a long stick and move the wood around until there is a spot in the middle where your paint can will be able to stably sit upright.
Step Seven: Place the Paint Can in the Fire
Put on a pair of thick gloves and grab pliers, metal tongs or some other object that will enable you to safely pick up the handle of the paint can. Then carefully carry the paint can to the fire and place it on the area that you created in the previous step.
Step Eight: Allow the Fire to Work Its Magic
Now that the paint can is in the center of the fire, you will need to monitor it and wait until the process has been completed. The four holes that you drilled into the lid will allow steam and wood gasses to come out of the can. You should begin seeing a steady amount of this steam after a few minutes. When the steam gets to a point where it is barely coming out of the lid anymore, you can proceed to the next step. It typically takes at least 20 to 30 minutes before the steam stops.
