Alternative Siphoning Options
You can also use several tubing variations to create a self-starting siphon that will not require you to suck on one end. As the following video shows, a little ingenuity, combined with a proactive mindset, can save you during an emergency. As an added bonus, you can use any of these siphoning methods to move any type of liquid from point A to point B. Of course, caustic liquids may begin to degrade your tubing as soon as they start flowing through it, so you may need to regularly create a new siphon tube if this is something that you will be doing often.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Modern vehicles are not nearly as easy to siphon gas from as those that were made at least 10 years ago. This is due to a newer design that can block your tube from actually accessing the gasoline. With this in mind, it is best to look for the oldest vehicle possible in the nearby area if you find yourself in a position where you must siphon gas. To learn more about why modern cars are not a good siphoning choice, please watch this video.
Now that you know how to safely move gas or other liquids from one place to another, you can avoid using the old-fashioned sucking technique. It is never a good idea to use the older method because this can kill you. We understand that an emergency situation may call for desperate measures, but keep in mind that killing yourself in your pursuit of gas is the antithesis of the prepper mentality. Survival is the name of the game, and you can greatly improve your odds of surviving after the SHTF if you prepare a proper siphoning device before you actually need it.
