2. Honda EU2000i Portable Generator ‑ 2,000 Watts
Pretty much everything we said about the Yamaha generator holds true for the Honda version as well. The one notable exception is that the Honda doesn’t have a fuel gauge, which just seems kind of ridiculous for a machine this expensive.
The Honda EU2000i is rated for 1600 watts, with a maximum output of 2000 watts, like the Yamaha. With a slightly larger displacement than the Yamaha (98.5cc versus 79cc), the Honda has a slightly shorter run time at “8.1 hours” per tank.
As you’d expect from a Honda, the inverter system is advanced and produces stabile power that’s compatible with sensitive electrics like TVs, refrigerators, and laptops — hence the high price tag.
The Honda also gets high marks for “Operational Security.” This generator is quiet (59 decibels), easy to carry (46lbs), and easy to conceal (about the size of a case of beer).
When you do a side-by-side comparison, however, the Yamaha has a few advantages in terms of efficiency, the fact that it comes with a fuel gauge, and the lower price. The only feature that gives Honda a clear advantage is the fact that it says “Honda” on the side — and as a brand they’ve done a great job building trust with consumers.
