Many of us use charcoal to fuel our BBQ grills on a regular basis, but do you know how to produce your own high-quality charcoal? It’s extremely easy, resourceful, and it can even be fun.

What’s more, a working knowledge of how to make your own charcoal could really come in handy one day.

In a SHTF crisis, locating good burning fuel to cook and stay warm will likely be incredibly frustrating. If you need this heating fuel, or you know how to produce this valuable resource and sell/trade it to others, you might just become a local hero.

Building a fire out of wood can be extremely smokey. No matter how much you like the smell of a nice fire, the smokey smell and eye irritation eventually becomes unbearable. Charcoal has a cleaner, more consistent and hotter burn than wood, which makes it more desirable for uses like cooking and heating.

The good news is that you can make your own charcoal. This will require some work, and you will have to be diligent in order to create enough charcoal to fulfill your needs. With our simple materials list and these step-by-step instructions, the process is easy (see video).
