When to Hunt

If you ever had a friend or family member that hunts, you’re most likely aware that deer hunting is not allowed all year-round in the state that you live in. You are only permitted by law to hunt during a certain time of the year, usually during certain windows in the fall and then again during a short window in the winter. A deer hunting season schedule in your area could look like the following:

• Deer archery: Sept. 26, 2015-Feb. 7, 2016

• Youth deer gun: Oct. 10-11, 2015

• Deer gun: Nov. 30-Dec. 6, 2015; Dec. 26-27, 2015

• Deer muzzleloader: Jan. 2-5, 2016

Limitations during deer season could include what weapons and ammunition is allowed, what sex of deer to hunt and bagging limits, to name a few. Check with the Department of Natural Resources or other wildlife agency to find out the specifics of deer hunting season in your area.
