3. Square Knot

As you can imagine, the vast majority of knots were developed and named by fishermen and sailors. The Square Knot, which is also referred to as the Reef Knot, is a prime example.

You don’t need to have a seafaring background to be familiar with this knot, however, it’s the basis of the knot that you use each time you tie your shoes.

The Square Knot does take things to a higher level, but it is still something that should ultimately only be used for temporary purposes.

Many people choose the Square Knot while fishing.
