If you still have time to get out of your local area and can reach the Rocky Mountains with your existing fuel supplies, then this just might be the perfect place to steer clear of the madness as civilization collapses.

In fact, researchers from Cornell University selected the Rocky Mountains (particularly the northern Rockies) as the best place in America to ride out the zombie apocalypse.

Obviously, keeping a low profile is relatively easy and travel is difficult in the mountainous terrain, making it ideal for riding out a national crisis undetected.

As with any of these locations, you must always beware that any piece of ground, privately or publicly-owned, could be fought over and contested by another refugee. Territorial battles must be anticipated and avoided whenever possible.
