# 1: Adapt to the Heat
It’s important to realize your body’s limitations as you get acclimated to the heat; it just can’t be done at a moment’s notice. Ignoring this critical fact during hot weather invites nasty things to happen to you such as stress, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. And whether you are outside, indoors or vacationing in a hot area, your body needs to acclimate and adapt to the heat. Your body usually does this in a few different ways.
One, your body is going to adjust by sweating more to allow you to cool down easier. Two, there’s going to be a change in your blood circulation, and it will circulate at a much more efficient rate when you’re hot enough. However, it will take a couple of days before your body even begins to acclimate, and it takes about two weeks to complete the process. Your body won’t even know how to start working on acclimating itself until it has been exposed to about two hours of extra heat per day, though. Also, during the first few days that you are becoming accustomed to the heat while working outside, it’s best to gradually build up your workload and be sure to take frequent breaks.
