#3: Cool Your Skin
Do you want to cut down on the power bill, but just have to feel that cool breeze on your skin? One way to answer this challenge is to create your own makeshift air conditioner, and this method works the best in dry conditions. If you have a fan in your house, place a shallow bowl of ice in front of it. That way, the ice will melt and then evaporate, providing you a cool breeze to enjoy. Other techniques that work on the same principle include putting soft gel ice packs underneath the sheets to cool your skin when you go to bed.
Also, if your air conditioning unit isn’t working as efficiently as it should, try performing some cleaning and maintenance per the manufacturer’s instructions. Also, ensure that the gaps between the AC and the window frame are sealed with some sealable strips or caulking. Not doing these two things can bring your air conditioning’s capacity down by as much as 15%, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
