Control Your Thoughts
As much credit as “thinking” gets in our modern word, little is said about the value of NOT thinking.
Often, we find ourselves dwelling on things that we have no control over. We lose sleep over it. It keeps interrupting our daily tasks. Even worse, it makes no difference if we think of it or not… and we understand that, logically at least.
This is why it’s important to practice discipline of not thinking about what you think. Do assess threats and obstacles, but Don’t continue to imagine the worst case scenarios over and over.
FBI veteran LaRae Quy uses this metaphor, “You can’t stop a bird from landing on your head, but you can keep it from building a nest.”
Controlling your thoughts, especially extremely negative (or positive) ones, frees your mind to focus on successfully executing the steps you need to take.
