6. Ground Flashes
Lightning can accompany many storm types, so its presence alone isn’t indicative of a pending tornado. What could signal a coming tornado, though, is the sight of ground flashes near a thunderstorm.
Keep an eye out for ground flashes that are green, white, blue or any combination thereof. This may mean that power transformers are blowing up, which is a relatively common occurrence during a tornado.
Generally speaking, you’re going to be seeing a lot of lightning when a storm rolls through. You mostly need to pay attention for changes in the colors you see flashing.
Rule of thumb: You don’t want it to look like a party is going on outside. That’s bad.
Even if the storm doesn’t involve a twister, the explosion of power transformers is very dangerous and may knock power out for an extended period of time. Don’t go anywhere near them.
