Time to Filter

Take the cap off of the bottom of the bottle if you haven’t already done so and pour the dirty water into your homemade filter. The first several ounce of dirty water will come out pretty cloudy and gross as it washes the dirt off of the stones you placed in the bottle.

You can pour that first 6 ounces out on the ground or you can pour it into a cup and inspect it to see how well you think your filter is working.

The next pass through will be significantly clearer; this is the water you’ll eventually drink.

Place your filter above a cooking pot or a cup and very carefully pour your water through the filter and let it drip into the clean cup. Again, I stress the need to be very careful not to let the tainted water drip into the clean water.

Be forewarned, it’s not going to look like pristine bottled water. But you will see a dramatic difference between what went into the filter and what ends up in your cup.

Great article fellas. One little tip from an 80 year old survivalist. Make sure that after every few filters that you pour a cup of boiling water through the filter system. it takes of any little survivors that might be lingering around thinking they escaped the process. Keep up the good tips.
