1. Filter Water in a Pinch with a Tampon
We have spoken before about the importance of being able to properly filter water during an emergency situation, and there are many ways to use a water bottle as part of this process. If you are in the woods, though, it’s possible that the only DIY filter component you will have handy is the bottle itself. The good news is that if you also have a tampon with you, then you can easily filter out particles such as sediment. This will not remove all of the possible contaminants in the water, but it is definitely better than nothing. You can make the filtered water even safer to drink by boiling it first.
Simply take the cotton from the tampon and shove it into the neck of the water bottle. From there, you can slowly pour water through the neck and capture it in another bottle. If you only have one water bottle handy, you can cut it in half to achieve this filtering effect.
