Create Your Firebox
The lowest drawer in your cabinet will no longer be a drawer, it will be a smoker box. This step requires some innovation on your part. Mainly, you’ll have to decide how exactly to set up your burner and water pan.
The simplest way to accomplish this is to place your water pan (cast iron or stainless) on the bottom of the cabinet, secure your burner a few inches above the pan, then find a grill grate that will hold your wood chips. See the nearby photo.
The key here is to make sure that your wood does not catch fire. You also don’t want the flames from your burner to heat the metal sides of your cabinet.
