If you will be using more than one container, it will be necessary to connect them together. This can be accomplished in a number of ways, including welding them. This is by far the most stable solution, but it is also outside of the reach of many DIYers. An easier but less secure method involves using punched metal plates and large bolts. This will hold everything together, and it will make it possible for you to easily disassemble the containers in the future. However, if you are not planning to break the house apart later on, it is still best to hire a welder instead.

8. Add Any Necessary Reinforcements

If the engineer you consulted with recommended some specific reinforcements, now will be the time to put them in place. Every shipping container home’s needs are different, but reinforcements are going to be needed if you are removing any walls. Steel beams are a common reinforcement option.

9. Put Your Roof Together

You may be able to stick with merely the top of the shipping containers as a roof. If you want something to go on top of this, though, you will need to construct it and attach it to the top of your containers. The cheapest and easiest option is to build a low-pitched shed roof. This is especially beneficial in areas where a lot of snow and ice accumulate because it will make it easier to clear off your roof.
