3. Snakes

You may run into a deadly snake in the wild, but the odds of spotting one in time is much lower than noticing a wolf or wild dog stalking you. Still, there are some tactics you can use to reduce your risk of being one of the 50,000 people who die annually from a snake bite.

The best way to avoid a snake bite is to remain aware of your surroundings. It’s not wise to wander off the trail into tall grasses in an area that is known to have venomous snakes.

They also love hanging out near rocks and under branches, so be careful when you sit down on a fallen tree to take a break.

If a snake spots you, try to remain as calm and still as possible. Do not make any moves in its direction. Slowly begin to back away. If the snake is still being aggressive, make a lot of loud noises. The vibrations should send the snake in the opposite direction.

Stay calm, use basic first aid and seek out immediate medical attention if you are bitten. This is especially necessary if the snake is poisonous.
