3. Plan Your Garden with Your Dog in Mind
Canned and bagged dog food will eventually run out or become too stale to eat, but this doesn’t have to be an issue if you educate yourself about the common types of human food that dogs can eat. In fact, unlike cats, dogs can exist quite happily on a properly balanced vegetarian diet. Therefore, when you are putting your garden together, be sure to keep the following list in mind:
· Apples
· Watermelon
· Bananas (in moderation)
· Carrots
· Blueberries
· Oranges (minus the peel)
· Strawberries
· Broccoli (stems only, in moderation)
· Pineapple
· Celery
· Cucumbers
· Green Beans
· Potatoes (washed, skin, cooked and plain only)
· Pears (remove the pit and seeds)
· Peaches (fresh only, remove the pit)
· Sweet Potatoes
· Mango
· Raspberries (in moderation)
Any of these foods can be mixed with rice or oatmeal to give your dog a more fulfilling meal. Make sure that you do not give them more than a few bites at a time of the listed fruits that are high in sugar. Your dog should also never be given the following items: asparagus, cherries, onions, mushrooms, avocado, tomatoes and grapes.
