Solar Water Disinfection
SODIS is a solar water disinfection process that relies on the energy of the sun to kill bacteria. This method is inexpensive, easy and offers a great outcome for getting rid of bacteria and viruses in the water.
Simply leave a plastic bottle containing the contaminated water outdoors in the sun for 24 hours (at minimum). If the skies are overcast, it could take two or more days to achieve the highest level of effectiveness. While this is a proven method at purifying water, it won’t kill parasites and other contaminants on rainy days.
