Straw Filter
A small and lightweight method of disinfecting and purifying your contaminated water is through a straw type of filter.
The newest versions are similar to the straws you currently use to drink liquids. The straws can also connect to certain water valves such as a garden hose or water heater.
While the filters are typically good at filtering out bacteria, they may not wipe away every virus that could be growing within the system. On the plus side, many of the filtered straws can eliminate odors and odd tastes from the liquid.
Sedimentation
If you don’t have access to any type of water filtration system, and you want to purify your water, you can rely on sedimentation. This process removes particles that are larger in size by letting the liquid settle in your container. You can begin by collecting the fluid in a jar, bowl or other container.
Also, the water will need a minimum of two hours for the particulates to sink to the bottom of your bin. If you see lighter particles float toward the top of the container, simply skim them off the water’s surface. The heaviest sediment can be removed by slowly pouring the liquid into a clean container. Stop pouring when you get near the bottom of your jug. You should see the heaviest of particles at the bottom of your original container.
