8. Check the Home’s Exterior
All of your weatherization work on the inside can be made less effective if the exterior has problems. Inspect everything to ensure that there are no unfilled cracks or holes. Remove any window air conditioning units and seal everything up. Repair any cracked or broken windows.
If you are unable to replace them, put a board in place and cover that with plastic on both sides. If you have any window shutters, bring them down and lock them in place before any major winter storms and during power outages to keep the cold temperatures outside.
This can also provide an extra layer of security if you are trying to remain safe and warm after the SHTF.
