8. Widespread Food Poisoning
Just when you need your toilet the most, it probably won’t be available.
That’s due to the dramatic increase of food poisoning cases that will happen if the power goes out long-term.
As people become desperate, they’ll turn to food that isn’t safe to eat. And even if the food would have been safe, the lack of proper sanitation can still turn it into a nightmare situation.

9. Death from Exposure
Unless a power outage happens to come when temperatures stay between the 50s and 70s all day and night, there are going to be cases of exposure.
In some of these cases, people will die because they don’t have access to electricity. Extreme heat is just as dangerous as the wintertime, and some people aren’t going to have the necessary supplies or knowledge to do what’s needed to regulate their body temperature.
Remember: layering is best during the cold, and stay out of the sun when it’s really hot.
