7. Close the Wound with Staples

To make this work properly, you will need to have a skin stapler on hand. Therefore, it is wise to consider adding one of these into your SHTF first aid kit. To close a wound this way, line up the center line of the stapler with the center of the wound, and then gently depress the stapler. Repeat this all the way down the wound until it has been stapled together. Later on, you can extract the staples with a medical stapler removal. If at all possible, use ice to numb the area before you start inserting staples into the person’s skin. Smearing antibiotic ointment on top of the closed up wound can help you avoid infections.
