Some people assume that everything that buzzes and stings can produce honey, but this is not the case. The reality is that many of the insects we hear buzzing around us are either wasps or yellow jackets, and there are also some bee species that are not honey producers.

If you disturb the nest of one of these insects, you are most likely going to pay for it in the form of multiple stings. Observing the insects that are buzzing around the hive will give you the opportunity to ensure that you have found a source of honey.

Bees can be distinguished from wasps due to their hairy bodies. You can also follow bees to see where they go. Their hive will usually be located in a log or within a hole inside a tree.
