6. Close Doors and Block Drafts
When the power goes out, take a few minutes to go through every room in your house and close every single door that leads to an unnecessary area. This will prevent the heat you will be using in one room from being leached off of by rooms that are not going to be utilized during the power outage.
You should also put a draft blocker in place at every exterior door, and you may wish to put them in front of all of the bedrooms that have been closed off to achieve even better results. If you do not have draft blockers, you can make them by rolling up towels or small fleece blankets.
