2. Test Your Water Regularly
Your local water is tested by government officials, but the Flint debacle has proven how unrealistic it is to rely on this supposed safeguard. Instead, you can take matters into your own hands by conducting a basic total dissolved solids (TDS) test at home. This will not tell you what type of contaminants are in your water, but it will give you a number ranging from 0 to 999.
If you want to be as safe as possible, you should stop drinking unfiltered tap water that scores a 10 or higher. Even if you are using a water filter, be sure to test your water at least once a week so that you can replace the filter as needed.
