4. Indoor Plumbing
Indoor plumbing will become obsolete soon after an emergency strikes. This means no clean, fresh water to drink or clean with, and it also means that you will need to go back to the days of an outhouse. Although this is definitely doable, it’s going to cause many people emotional distress.
The fact is that we have grown attached to indoor plumbing in general and toilets specifically. No one wants to go outside for their morning constitutional. But that’s exactly what’s going to happen, and it’s going to leave all of us wishing there was some way to retain toilets with plumbing during a SHTF crisis.
A composting toilet might be the answer because it will give you some semblance of the real thing, and it will provide you with manure for your garden. However, even this indoor alternative is still going to force you to deal with your waste in a way that most people aren’t comfortable with.
