10 Survival Foods You Should Be Growing

Gardening, whether it’s hydroponic, aquaponic, or traditional, is an essential survival skill. No matter how much food you have in storage, unless it can clone itself, it’s entirely finite. Even if it’s entirely secure and pumped so full of preservatives it could last a hundred years, it’s not truly sustainable. In fact, a diet loaded with heavy preservatives may send you to an early grave… No to mention, eating a diet consisting of bland, tasteless MREs may drive you insane. Remember, Columbus and other explorers were searching for more efficient routes to feed Europe’s cravings for spices. Food is critical, […]

Top 5 Guard Dog Breeds

Security systems have proven to be effective… when it comes to making people feel safer. But will they really help protect your family in an emergency situation? The answer is up for debate… The problem with traditional security systems is twofold: Yard signs, motion sensor lights, and cameras attract attention to your home, especially among experienced criminals. They rely on external systems that may fail in a crisis, such as the electric grid and police response times. In a true crisis situation, the best security systems is the one your ancestors have been relying on for thousands of years. Yes, […]

NSA Spying on You? There’s an App for That

In 2013, a host of leaked documents confirmed what most patriots already suspected: The government’s alphabet soup of spying agencies — the NSA, CIA, FBI, etc. — have been unconstitutionally spying on everyday Americans for years. More recent revelations show that the NSA steals over 200 Million “untargeted” text messages each and every day. Now that we know for a fact that the US government is collecting massive reserves of our personal data everyday through our smartphones… and they don’t seem too apologetic about it… they question then becomes: What can we do about it? Technology to the Rescue? Most […]

Tap into the Rain Clouds

When preparing for a crisis, water is one of the first things that comes to mind. Storing water can pose a number of challenges… Sure, you can buy several cases of bottled water, but they take up a lot of space. And really, how long would they last? The thing that most of us are striving for is self-sufficiency. We’re searching for things that will help us become immune to the rash decisions of petty governments. Many of us are living under heavy watering restrictions right now. In many parts of the country, you can water once a week… if […]

3 Storm Preparedness Items Everyone Should Own

As I read through the comments to yesterday blog post, “Are You Evacuation Ready?” I noticed a question about which specific items I recommend. Immediately, I went into my supply room to check what was in my bug-out bag, which weather radio I own, which walkie-talkies I have in my safe room, and even which first aid kit I have. To be completely honest, I have little attachment to most of the items in my “just in case” crisis inventory. The reason for that is mostly because I never really use these items on a day-to-day basis. It’s a lot […]

Are You Evacuation Ready?

For residents in the heartland and the Southeast, there’s no more dangerous time of year than storm season. From Texas to Michigan, this tornado season has proven to be one for the record books. And with the hurricane season expected to produce a heightened level of named storms, it’s absolutely critical that you review your emergency evacuation plans… And if you don’t have any — make them. You can’t afford to put this off. If you and your loved ones are “evacuation ready” — i.e. ready to evacuate and move to a safe zone at a moment’s notice — then […]

How to Build a Cinder Block Grill

As summer approaches, BBQ grills across the country ignite. Outdoor cooking is a great family activity because it not only gets you outdoors and in the elements, but it’s also a great time to teach children basic fire-building and cooking skills. Not to mention, it’s an opportunity to play with fire, eat steak, and enjoy the beautiful weather. If you’re like me, however, you like to incorporate DIY and survival skills into almost everything… even grilling. One way to do this is to build your own grill. Many of us take cooking for granted, because it has been so incredibly […]

5 Reasons You Need to Grow Your Own Food

Did you know that the food you ate today was contaminated? It’s almost a guarantee. Most of the time, foods with potentially harmful ingredients are forced to include them on their labels, think: Trans fats… However, when Big Government joins forces with large corporate interests, there’s no limit to how much information they’ll try to conceal from the American public. It’s bad enough to stealthily contaminate the US food supply with GMOs, but to attack and defeat any legislation that requires GMO labeling… that’s how you know that the corruption has reached the highest levels of government. What’s the harm in […]

EU Moves to Ban Heirloom Seeds

As genetically modified crops continue to take over the world’s food supply, politicians are looking into ways to give companies like Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences every advantage (that’s what those lobbyists get paid for). The state of European agriculture has got so Orwellian that some politicians in the EU now consider non-GMO seeds a threat to stability. In fact, they’ve adopted measures to ban all seeds that haven’t been “tested, approved and accepted.” Well, who has the incentive to undergo a rigorous testing and regulatory process? Mother nature? I don’t think she has the financing or the legal team… But you […]

Supreme Court Backs Monsanto Seed-opoly

Can a company own a strain of DNA inside of a seed that’s grown and harvested by an individual? The answer appears to be yes, according to a decision handed down by the “highest” court in the land last week. The Supreme Court’s decision raises fresh concerns about the decaying state of America’s agriculture. In this particular case, a farmer in Indiana was ordered to pay Monsanto $84,000 for seeds that he purchased from a local grain elevator! Seed form grain elevators is typically used as feed, but this farmer chose to plant his seeds, grew a late-season crop of […]
